Dr Dave was born in Yorkshire at an early age, mezzed in his bedroom with a guitar as a mini-Dr Dave, and started playing in front of real people at he age of 18 after seeing Slade on TOTP. Hohned his craft playing with various rock and blues bands, including OPTIC NERVE, ROADSTER, RABID, TNT, VINDABLOO and PETE MITCHELL-SMITH`s BLUES CREW. It was with the latter that he grew his blues roots, the band became a top name on the National Blues Circuit, mainstaging at major Festivals, doing a live session on the Paul Jones Show on BBC Radio 2, and supporting a whole host of top names- WALTER TROUT at The Irish Centre, THE BLUES BAND at Sheffield Leadmill and Telford Theatre,, JOE LOUIS WALKER at Bradford Festival, LOUISIANA RED, PAUL LAMB etc etc. The Blues Crew were regulars at the famed Duchess in Leeds, where on one occasion when supporting American Harmonica ace Charlie Musselwhite, his bass player got locked "in the John" and Dr Dave had to break him out. The guy was so stoned he nearly got fired and Dave was asked to stand in if needed. On another night, they were billed to support Nine Below Zero who cancelled at the last minute and the Blues Crew were told-you`re IT. Nonetheless a great night was had and we swear 90% of the Duchess crowd, which included a whippet, were so lubricated they didn`t know the difference... Yet another cancellation at the Duchess was a support with bluesman Steve Phillips, who dropped the band manager a handwritten note saying "Sorry can`t do the Duchess gig- off on tour with Mark in my new band"(Mark Knopfler and The Notting Hillbillies!) Them were`t days!! NEXT.. Dr Davisms |
